About us

MU Archive ranks among the research institutions with public activities. Its aim is to render general care for archival documents and their scientific use and scientific treatment. At present, the archive is located in a close vicinity of MU Faculty of Law.

In 2005, an overall inventory of archival resources and collections was finished. On 7th March 2005, a total number of 185 archival resources and collections registered in registration files of National Archives Legacy with the overall number 1534 bm of archival documents were stored in the university archive. MU Archive takes second place among university archives and, moreover, exceeds all archives of its category thanks to the number of archival resources and collections. Approximately 90% of all archival documents stored in the archive are compiled and made accessible to research and administration use. The documentation took place between 1829 and 1997.

In 2005, a personal collection of a philosopher and journalist Vladimír Blažek was one of the most significant gains of the archive. Polemical texts of German and Czech authors devoted to the problems of a post-war resettlement of German population from Czechoslovakia form an indispensable part of the archive’s collection. Moreover, a collection of a Germanist Antonín Beer – one of the new acquisitions of the archive – includes documentation of the editorial board of an inter-war critical monthly Naše Věda. Beer was its editor in chief. The most extensive legacy taken over by the archive in 2005 is the personal collection of a literary historian Dušan Jeřábek.

In 2005, 65 researchers, two of them international, visited the archive’s study room. The total number or research visits exceeded 250 (excluding documentation for administrative purposes). Loans of the documents outside the archive were rendered in 45 cases.
