Don't let anybody oppress you!
If you are waiting for free computer because of capacity of UCC and someone else thoughtlessly occupies place by playing games or else breaks the Rule Book, don't wait for anything and ask him for leaving computer. He is obliged to leave the place. If he doesn´t, ask UCC attendants for help. They will help you with releasing computer and pertinently punish culprit by breaking Rule book.

First visit to th UCC
Before you visit the UCC for the first time, you should be given a few information. First of all the Centre is established for all MU students who:
- have their own valid ISIC card (student´s card)
- know the password neccessary for log on the UCC computers
Before you start working on a computer, log on with your login and password. Login accordes with personal identifikation for log on IS MU (Information University System) and it´s possible to make use either of UČO or of login (nickname) picked out for this subsytem is.muni.cz.
Password for acces in the Centre (UCC) has to be set in advance. It´s possible via any computer in the Internet using the IS MU on
http:/
/
is.muni.cz (Osobní administrativa-> Přístup-> Změna hesla pro POP a studovnu [Personal office work-> Acces-> Password change for POP and UCC] ) or directly in UCC via determined computers instaled in computer rooms. Because of long queuing for these few computers it´s better to follow the first instruction (to set the password before you come to UCC).
After you have finished your work, log off (Start->.). Do not turn off the computer.
There are following discs available on the computer:
- A: Floppy disk drive
- C: Local hard disc
- D: DVD-RW drive
- H: Reserved for connecting faculty's home directory
- I: Directory TEMP shared on server. It´s available for reading or writing in for all users. It´s possible to use it for transporting data among computers. It´s not established for longtime period savings. Data could be deleted at any time. User quota of 400 MB.
- J: Applications shared on server, read only.
- K: User´s settings and profile. There are some personal settings saved on this disc (MS Internet Explorer's Favourites, complete settings of e-mail clients and news groups of MS Outlook Express, etc.) It´s also possible to use free space on this disc for saving you own files. You can get there via Dokumenty on the Windows Desktop. Be careful to keep the capacity limit of user´s profile of 100 MB. All your files (emails, favourite items, etc.) mustn´t exceed this quota. If this happens, it might cause problems. You can usually log on and off but your settings won´t be updated and some applications would not work properly.
On local disc C:, it is only possible to write files into your profile (folder C:\Documents and Settings\UČO) and to folder C:\temp. Some parts of user´s settings (profile) are saved on server and they are refreshed at next logon (including basic settings of applications). Therefore, it is not necessary to set-up the environment, e-mail client, etc. every time you log on. Unfortunately, all applications and settings don´t work as written above. It´s because some programs save the settings into the files or registry which are not part of user´s profile.
Letter H: is used for connecting home directory from the student´s faculty. You can connect the directory only in case the faculty provides this service. we recommend using 'mount' utility that you can find under Start / Programy / Připojení domovského adresáře. [Start/Programs/Connect home directory]. Fill in user name (login) and password for home directory, and in the form Adresář (directory) write down the address of home directory in UNC form (//name_of_server/shared_folder for example //dior.ics.muni.cz/smith). If you tick option Aktualizovat / uložit nastavení domovského adresáře [Refresh/Save the settings of home directory] you won´t have to insert the address with each log on, and you will be asked for inserting the login and password automatically.
Server mailstd.muni.cz is used for sending emails via SMTP protocol from computers in UCC.
