About us

Masaryk University has rated among the most productive publishers of specialized literature in the Czech Republic. Under the terms of the publishing licence and on the basis of the edition plan of individual faculties and MU Publications Committee, 357 non-periodical publications were issued by Masaryk University Press in 2006 (total number including all reprints).

MU Press arranges the specialized as well as technical editorial board. Until 30th June 2007, it also served as a printing and reprographic administration covering general public activities.

Since 1st July 2007, the newly created workplace has arranged editing and publishing activities related to the specialized and technical editorial board, ISBN agenda, copyright (Licence Agreements) as well as typography and manufacturing.

The aim of MU Press is:

  • to issue specialized, academic and non-fiction literature, representative interdisciplinary and interfaculty publications for academic and professional public
  • to issue original and translational university textbooks which correspond to the current needs of professors as well as students
  • to present the overall university production
  • to create elaborated distributional networks with the aim to achieve a greater informational interconnection in the editorial and publishing field; to create an alternative way of distribution of publications and periodicals issued by MU, also towards international academic subjects

MU Press in Numbers

  • In 2006, MU Press issued 357 non-periodical publications, out of which 179 were textbooks and 153 specialized publications and anthologies.
  • We employ 4 personnel and 6 external assistants.
