Prof. Michael Coogan: The Bible and Sex (public lecture)

Many individuals and groups appeal to the Bible’s authority in support of their views about sexuality and gender. But the Bible is a complex book, and does not speak with just one voice about these and other subjects. This will be illustrated by a close reading of the David and Bathsheba episode (2 Samuel 11–12). The analysis will also provide an example of how biblical scholars, especially in the US, work, and an opportunity to further explore some issues of values.
