Description | Mercel skin carcinoma (MCC) is a rare neuroendocrine tumor characterized by its rapid growth, aggressive clinical behavior of people with frequent regional lymph nodes, distant metastases and frequent recurrences. Arises from Mercel cells of the basal layer of the epidermis. Although it is a rare types of tumors (less than 1% of the skin tumors in adults population), its incidence is rapidly rising trend with an annual increase of 8%. MCC was first described by Cyril Tokerem in 1972 as trabecular carcinoma of the skin.
