Description | „Emergencies in pediatric oncology“ is a unique event in the Czech medical literature. It provides a comprehensive overview of all acute situations that may occur in children and adolescents with cancer. Emergencies in pediatric oncology might be caused not only by the growth of malignant disease itself , but may arise as an acute and life threatening complication of administered anticancer therapy. Individual chapters are sorted by systems and organs and describe in detail emergencies neurological, metabolic, hematologic, pulmonary, cardiac, abdominal, nephrological and infectious, from their pathogenesis, clinical presentation over to treatment recommendations including pediatric dosage of individual drugs. The final chapters are devoted to skin disorders, dermatological complications, paravasation of chemotherapy and their treatment. The text is well ilustrated by graphs, tables, diagrams and photographs. The textbook is intended not only to pediatric oncologists, but also to oncologists taking care of adult patients with so called pediatric or juvenile types of the tumors (which require aggressive and intensive therapy) , as well as to doctors in pediatric intensive care units. The textbook can also help general pediatricians and other physicians in management of these acute conditions. |
