Description | What can predict hope throughout life? What contributes to a higher level of hope? Many characteristics from childhood and adolescence are important resources that contribute to how the hope is expressed in the later stages of life. Results are based on Brno longitudinal human development that has been running since 1961. In childhood as the expected resources of higher hope we have included personality and temperament, academic and family background. In adulthood, we focused again on the personality and temperament, relationships with parents and social functioning (career, education, etc.). We have found that biologically influenced characteristics such as disinhibited temperament and extraversion were the most important source in childhood. Another important source was the quality of the relationship with one own father. In adulthood, we found similar results: temperament (e.g. persistence), personality traits (extraversion), self- regulation and again relations with parents. |
