Description | Denis I. Fonvizin was a prominent Russian playwright of the second half of the 18th century and the author of bitter social satires. He was also famous for his interest in political thinking and well-known for his critical stance toward Catherine II’s reign and its flaws. The aim of the paper is to inquire into his share in the Russian constitutionalism and its formation. His constitutional ideas presented in The Minor and one of his more extensive essays called Discourse on the immutable state-laws are presented. The author not only focuses on the contents analysis, but he also shows the means Fonvizin was using to express his ideas in plays as well as in journalistic works. |
