Description This article deals with the matter of public policy and accepted principles of morality as absolute grounds for refusal of trademark protection. The aim is to analyze the decision-making practice of the European Union Intellectual Property Office, as well as the decision-making practice of the Czech Industrial Property Office. Firstly the term public policy and accepted principles of morality were generally analyzed. Further these terms were analyzed in connection with the trademark law protection. Special inside was given into signs associated with communist regime, signs which consist of the names of state officials and state symbols and at last signs with negative and dramatic background.
