Description | The conference paper is an attempt at highlighting the current methodology of the research of theatre translation. Following the brief overview of the development of the field of theatre translation, the paper provides a survey of the relevant Czech terminology in the field, pointing out certain lacks and weaknesses, as well as a shot at the possibilities of classifying the translated texts as textocentric or scenocentric. The discussion them centers around the role of the myth as a factor in theatre translation practices, and the various myths (of the translator, the playwright, the title, etc.) that have shaped the Czech translations and adaptations of The Beggar's Opera as products. As a conclusion, the paper pinpoints certain perspectives of the research of theatre translation. |
