Description | The article deals with the history of Uherský Brod in the early modern period. It deals with the issue of the establishment of Uherský Brod as a town under the rule of important noble families in the 16th and the first half of the 17th century (Lords of Kunovice, Lords of Kaunitz). It also analyses the social conditions within the town community. An important role is played by the position of the town as a place situated in the mountainous terrain of the foothills of the White Carpathians and at the same time in the immediate vicinity of the Moravian-Hungarian border. This was reflected in the livelihood of the population (agrarian production, cross-border trade), but also in the situation during the wars (Bocskai's raids, the Thirty Years' War). |
