Description | he chapter focuses on the "supervisors of 10", the lowest ranking officials of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia, in the years before February 1948 and in the years after. It focuses not only on the organizational framework and plans of the party center, but also on the concrete practices and thought world of these communists in selected regions of Czechoslovakia. The project of the post-war system "of 10" was relatively short-lived, only six or seven years after the end of the Second World War. The "supervisors of 10" proved themselves well during the 1946 elections. Thereafter, the headquarters gave further attention to the concept of the system "of 10", because in the planned elections in May 1948 the Communists were to win an absolute majority of the votes. After the seizure of power in February 1948, the intended role of the them changed, although the basic tasks (controlling attendance at meetings and collecting membership fees) remained unchanged. They were also to take a new role in the proper vetting or training of party members, in improving performance in industry and agriculture, and in re-educating Communist Party members towards the ideal of the new socialist man/woman. However, the party apparatuses at all levels could not be satisfied with their work remained largely outside the interest of the "supervisosrs of 10". |
