Description | In the Middle Ages and early modern times, the city of Brno represented the appeals instance of a number of Moravian cities, towns and villages that formed the legal district of Brno. In addition, these localities could turn to the Brno City Council with requests for legal advice, which served as binding opinions on how to decide a dispute within a narrower jurisdiction, or had the nature of a judgment (i.e. a decision on the merits). During the lecture, the audience will be introduced not only to specific cases that Brno dealt with in the 14th and 15th centuries, but also to the sources that formed the normative framework of Brno's municipal law. |
