Description | We compare two samples of adolescents representing two different generations of Czech adolescents. In the early nineties, they bore many features that distinguished them from adolescents in Western Europe; however, at present, the differences have been wiped out. Contemporary Czech adolescents emphasize, to a greater extent than the previous generation, the value of leisure time and education. They appear to be more individualistically oriented. The influence of adult authorities (parents, teachers, etc.) on self-definition have decreased. The present generation of Czech adolescents does not experience only more autonomy, independence and freedom, but also greater insecurity and a general lack of positive norms, values and rules. |
