Description This work evaluates occurrence of infectious occupational diseases in the period from 1997-2007 in the region of South Moravia. The number of confirmed contagious and parasitic diseases was 347, and it altogether forms 22% of all confirmed occupational diseases in this locality and time period. The age of patients ranged from 19 to 69 years; and, prominently, percentage of female patients was higher. As to professions of the patients, they were mostly workers in the field of medicine, zoopharmacy, social workers, farmers and foresters. Out of diseases which are transferable from person to person, the most frequent ones were scabies, viral hepatitis and tuberculosis. With zoonoses, the most frequent were boreliosis, trichofytosis and erysipeloids. Among tropical infections, the ones with the highest occurrence were malaria, amoebosis, dengue and viral hepatitis C. Infectious diseases have sanitary, social as well as economic consequences and it is essential to keep paying attention to their prevention.
