Description | The authors analyzed prevalence of the agenesis of upper lateral incisors using statistically standard sample of Czech orthodontic patients. The sample included 3483 patients, 2092 females and 1391 males. There were 333 patients with various types of agenesis, i.e. 9.56% (721 missing teeth). 141 patients suffered from the agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors, which corresponds to the actual prevalence of 4.0%. The authors tested statistically the relationship between the unilateral agenesis of maxillary lateral incisors and the contralateral pegshaped incisor the incidence of pegshaped incisor (45.3% of unilateral agenesis) is related to the incidence of the contralateral unilateral agenesis; the values are statistically significant. The results of the presented study support the theory of embryonic fusions the upper lateral incisors are seen as the place of the fusion of two embryonic developmental parts. |
