Popis | Both as women and as an ethnic minority Asian American female authors are at the position of being the Other in two aspects. That made them particularly sensitive to the imagery imposed on them by American culture – a beautiful and docile doll, ''the Geisha Girl'', or ''the Seductress'', a mysterious and dangerous Oriental vixen. These images are in sharp contrast to how women from this ethnic group perceived themselves: the heroines in their novels have always been strong and independent women, often fighting with their families, communities, and the society in order to forge and maintain their own identity and values. This paper briefly explores development, origins, and elements of the warrior woman archetype in the novels. |
