Popis | This study examines the evolution and emerging issues of flexible work arrangements in the post-pandemic era, with a focus on the Czech Republic. The aim is to identify factors influencing management perspectives on flexible work and to explore the challenges and opportunities for organizations in adapting to these changes. The methodology involved 89 in-depth interviews conducted between 2022 and 2024 with HR professionals and line managers across 49 organizations in various sectors. Our findings show that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly influenced the adoption and evolution of flexible work arrangements. Initially driven by external pressures, remote working became widespread, influencing HR practices and perceptions. Our research indicates that while remote work was predominant during the pandemic, other forms of flexibility, such as flexi-time with higher level of autonomy and flexible shift scheduling, also gained traction. However, access to flexible work varies by job type, organizational culture, and employee characteristics, leading to ongoing disparities. Trust in employee productivity remains a crucial factor, with organizations differing in their reliance on control mechanisms versus supportive tools for managing flexibility. The role of managers is critical in navigating these complex dynamics. |
