The project aims at examining the impact of changes in the EU accession procedure on the countries which are currently part of the European enlargement policy. More specifically, the research aims to clarify whether the changed accession methodology is tailored in a manner to be more beneficial for the candidate countries (in terms of accelerating or facilitating their further progress towards membership) or primarily for the European Union itself (and in which way). As part of the project, the host will provide access to the Faculty of Social Studies library in Brno, which contains in-depth literature on various European Union policies. Apart from the opportunity to conduct a preparatory literature research, the PP and the PI will analyze the main aspects of the problem area, aiming at several specific scientific deliverables: organizing lectures/workshops at the Faculty of Social Studies in Brno for the members of the academic community, as well as publishing a paper in this specific domain. The PI also intends to organize an additional gathering at the Institute for International Politics and Economics in Belgrade, aimed at creating debate with the researchers and academia. From the general point of view, the main advantage of the project is the possibility to analyze and discuss novelties in EU approach with the academic communities in both countries, and to contribute to the understanding of the European integration as an ever-evolving concept. The topic is growingly important for Serbia having in mind the lowered interest of European Union countries for the enlargement policy as such in recent years. It is necessary to identify and understand the strengths and weaknesses of the changed EU approach for Serbia so that its accession process could be continued in a successful manner.
