Effect of drugs on structural barriers formation in plant roots (Drugs and root barriers)

Pharmaceuticals represent important group of pseudo-persistent pollutants in water sources, soils, and sediments. They are at the focus of current research interest because of possible risk to non-target organisms, including plants. It is known that there are detoxification mechanisms in plants (e.g. enzymatic and non-enzymatic). The question is whether, in the case of the drugs, structural barriers can also play protective role in plants, as proven under toxic metals stress.
