Popis | This report is the first of two deliverables for Work Package 4: ‘Exploring children’s understanding of risk’. As a first deliverable, this report offers detailed accounts of innovative approaches in qualitative research on 5 children’s internet use and their understanding of online risks. The second deliverable, due in the early months of 2014, will be the comparative report on qualitative data collection in at least 10 countries in the EU Kids Online network. It will be an extensive document built on the analyses of more than 60 focus groups and 120 individual interviews with children, which will offer a new insight into children’s understandings and perceptions of online risks throughout Europe. The qualitative comparative fieldwork will further enhance and expand the knowledge obtained through the quantitative survey conducted in 2010. This work package is being conducted in parallel with others. It intersects with the work of Work Package 2, the Frequently asked questions guide (Ólafsson et al., 2013) and the European evidence database, 1 which contains more than 1,200 examples of studies on children and young people’s online activities and risky experiences. Last, this report is the product of the collective efforts of Work Package 4 members, with a generous input from the researchers in the EU Kids Online network who provided examples of national studies. |
