Popis | In a retrospective survey (N=3174) we compared three groups of mothers of three-years-old children: 1. employed, 2. voluntarily unemployed, and 3. involuntarily unemployed in the ELSPAC study from 1993 (European Longitudinal Study of Parenthood and Childhood). We analyzed the following aspects: 1. physical health, 2.psychological health, 3. family functioning. The study is grounded in the unemployment stress, work-family stress and gender roles framework. Groups were tested by chi-square, Fisher exact test and risk estimate method. Results revealed voluntarily unemployed mothers are the group most satisfied with their life, family relations and they are enjoying the best physical and psychological health. Working mothers followed this pattern, however some psychological discomfort and less satisfactory family life were found. The most critical group was involuntarily unemployed mothers with plenty of health, psychological and family issues, which inevitably have negative impact on child development. |
