Popis | Periodontitis is a chronic infection characterized by a progressive inflammatory response to bacteria in dental plaque, which finally results in periodontal tissue destruction and tooth loss. Interleukin-17 (also known as IL-17A) plays a role in innate immunity, protection against pathogens and contributes to the pathogenesis of chronic periodontitis (CP). The aims of this study were to analyse IL-17A -197A/G (rs2275913) and IL-17F +7488C/T (His161Arg, rs763780) gene polymorphisms in patients with CP, and determine their possible associations with IL-17 production and occurrence of periodontopathic bacteria in CP patients. Our findings demonstrated the functional relevance of the IL-17A polymorphism, where A allele were associated with higher IL-17 secretion and with occurrence of “red complex” bacteria in patients with CP. |
