Popis | A rapid increase in scientific knowledge in recent years has significantly decreased the occurrence of specific infectious diseases. However, neither the most sophisticated diagnostics nor the use of more efficient treatment have completely eradicated them. For this reason, current attention is being paid to these diseases, including their historical development. Palaeopathological studies focused on the observation of morbid changes in skeletal remains from archaeological researches provide direct evidence of the history of diseases. In the Middle Ages, the lives of the European population were affected in particular by leprosy and, in the Modern Age firstly by syphilis and later by tuberculosis. In the Czech Lands, leprosy has not occurred since the 17th century. However, syphilis and tuberculosis still remain serious medical problems. |
