Popis | Phylum Apicomplexa comprises exclusively parasitic protists that infect a wide spectrum of vertebrates and invertebrates. In contrast to intensively studied apicomplexan etiologic agents of human and animal diseases (e.g. malaria, toxoplasmosis, cryptosporidiosis), only little attention is paid to the basal lineages restricted to the invertebrate hosts remain. To fulfil the gaps in our understand of evolutionary pathways and biodiversity of Apicomplexa, our research focuses on early emerging groups with emphasis on lower coccidia, blastogregarines, archigregarines and eugregarines restricted to marine invertebrates. |
