Popis | Worldwide the nonprofit organizations are experiencing challenging implications of austerity and financial uncertainty, which make them turn to commercial activities in order to meet the emerging survival challenges. Various key concepts describe the phenomenon of nonprofits becoming business-like. This chapter adds to the definitional clarification of the conceptual foundations of the business practices in nonprofit funding. It reviews international theoretical approaches originating in the Western environment with a view to assessing their applicability in the (post-)transitional context, while identifying the elements of their conceptual core. The emphasis of the scientific discourse on nonprofits becoming business-like in (post-)transitional countries provides a basis for investigating the generally positive, normative, and heuristic analysis of the nonprofit sector associated with insights that consider the challenging socio-economic and political environments of the Czech Republic and Slovakia. |
