Popis | One of the important questions in research on the Vienna Geserah, the largest anti-Jewish pogrom in medieval Austrian history, is the motivation of Duke Albert V, who initiated the pogrom. The study attempts to look at this question from a hitherto neglected angle - from the perspective of Albert's politics in the Moravian Margraviate. This was quite different from the situation in Austria and, apart from the expulsion of Jews from Jihlava, did not include similar extremes that occurred in Austria in 1420/21 and rather copied the Jewish policy of Alberts father-in-law Sigismund of Luxembourg. This finding agrees with the author's previously published view that the Vienna Geserah did not reflect Albert's principled religious stance towards the Jews, but rather was the result of a momentary need for a huge sum of money to finance Albert's anti-Hussite and dynastic policies. |
