Popis | Presentation of the PhD project to the members of the project "Cultural Interactions in the Medieval Sub-Caucasian Region" as well as to the guests: Prof. Christina Maranci and Prof. David Khoshtaria. The project addresses the artistic production belonging to the complex political panorama of the early 13th century in Armenia and the Southern Caucasus. After the Seljuk domination, Armenia experienced a unique cultural and artistic resurgence under the rule of the Georgian monarchy. Princely families, both newly funded and antique Armenian royalty, were given territories, where they constructed landscapes with their foundations. The project aims to study the Vachutian family’s patronage indicatively from the very beginning of the 13th century to the first half of the 14th century, when the last mentions of the family became rarer until, eventually, disappeared. The research intends to create a comprehensive study of the palimpsest of buildings established by the Vachutian family along with its relations to the landscape and its perception. The main issue of this research is, thus, to investigate these factors as a unique phenomenon. |
