Popis | Taking the main concepts introduced in Leigh Landy's talk, ‘Making Sound-based Music Relevant’, this workshop involves introducing three (of several) possible ways of recycling (or remixing) sounds creating what Landy likes to call ‘a theatre of sounds within a choreography of space’. Two of the three works are surround-sound fixed compositions, one using samples from hundreds of world music recordings and another involving recordings of dozens of Czech radio broadcasts. The third, a performed work (including a stereo recording) uses various texts by the early 20th century writer, Gertrude Stein, and involves their being completely recomposed. This workshop reflects on aspects of finding and selecting potential materials, aspects of pre-composition and the composition itself involving various compositional elements regarding order, contrast, spatialisation, structure, humour and much more. It relates these to Landy's personal search to be innovative and accessible to a wide number of communities of interest. |
