Popis As a result of medication overuse in patients over 65 years of age, pharmacotherapy is associated with the possible occurrence of potentially inappropriate medications. Currently, potentially inappropriate drugs are of interest to many scientific groups. In this research, the consumption of cardiovascular drugs was analyzed within different anatomical-therapeutic-chemical subgroups. The model group consisted of male patients aged ? 65 years who were prescribed drugs during 2018. Of the total number of packs dispensed, hypolipidemics, drugs with an effect on the renin-angiotensin system, and beta-blockers were the most frequently dispensed. Potentially unsuitable medicines were detected by comparing the medicines with the European List of Potentially Unsuitable Medicines. The most frequent subgroups were cardiac drugs, antihypertensives and calcium channel blockers. In the cardiac subgroup, 6 potentially inappropriate drugs were identified (digoxin, propafenone, dronedarone, flecainide, amiodarone and trimetazidine). Antihypertensives included 2 potentially inappropriate drugs, moxonidine and rilmenidine. An inappropriate drug from the calcium channel blocker subgroup was verapamil. Pharmacotherapy in elderly patients should be individualized, safe, and effective. Optimization of treatment should be a result of collaboration between physician and pharmacist
