Popis | In order to find out how the community of aquatic invertebrates changes in ephemeral field wetlands with a medium-long hydroperiod, we monitored ten field wetlands in southern Moravia from their flooding to their drying up. We found that there are significant changes in the composition of the community over time, including the exchange of species. Temporal dynamics differ between large invertebrates and small crustaceans and between invertebrate groups with different feeding and dispersal strategies. Since we did not find a significant influence of the monitored environmental variables on the change of the community over time, we assume that the observed dynamics are not a response to the changing environment, but are mainly influenced by biotic interactions and differences in the characteristics of species, especially by different mechanisms of recolonization. Passive colonizers waiting out the dry period at the site in a dormant stage, such as large copepods, clitellats or molluscs, appear shortly after flooding and dominate in the middle phase. Active colonizers, especially insects, are gradually increasing and there are most of them in the final phase. Among planktonic crustaceans, copepods reached the highest abundance in the first, while cladocerans in the second half of the aquatic phase. Field wetlands represent a unique system that allows monitoring the temporal dynamics of communities less dependent on the changing environment in contrast to temporary wetlands with a longer hydroperiod. |
