Popis | Background. In 1998,a new subspecies,Staphylococcus hominis subsp.novobiosepticus (SHN),isolated from human clinical material, was described by Kloos,et al.We present genetic and phenotypic characteristics of 192 SHN strains, isolated in 24 cities of the Czech Republic (CR). Methods.A total of 192 SHN strains were collected in 29 Czech hospitals mainly from the blood (72%).They were tested for resistance to 12 antibiotics by the disk-diffusion method.Molecular typing was carried out to map characteristics of 70 selected SHN strains. To study possible genetic relatedness between strains, the Sma I- and Ksp I-macrorestriction analysis, plasmid content analysis and AP-PCR were used. Results.Multiresistant and virulent strains showed practically identical phenotypic characteristics as type strain CCM 4786 T .The most refined genotyping results were obtained by macrorestriction analysis, differentiating unambiguously between SHN and other S.hominis subspecies at a macrorestricton pattern similarity level of 25%.In SHN strains,32 different macrorestriction patterns with similarity range of 35%-95%were identified. Based on the cluster analysis, the strains were divided into 14 clonal types. Conclusions.Particular attention should be focused on the incidence of SHN strains, thought to play an important part in hospital infections, mainly those of the bloodstream. |
