Popis If oratory is meant to fulfil its tasks, i.e. to persuade the audience about particular ideas, it must create the illusion that the speaker is addressing an individual rather than anonymous collective audience. If attention is paid to the sound structure of the text, it is possible to find out that it is pronunciation that can considerably support creating the illusion. The sound structure of a public speech must primarily ensure full comprehensibility of the ideas presented. However, it is also a means by which the speakers are presenting themselves as cultivated personalities who are aware of their responsibility towards the audience. Besides, cultivated pronunciation is unmarked from both regional and social viewpoints, with no undesirable connotations. Moreover, the sound structure is an important element also from the aesthetic point of view, which considerably contributes to reaching the aims of public speech: information plus persuasion. Although methods used in training of future actors are sometimes used, the pronunciation described above is not identical with requirements for the speech of actors.
