Popis | The paper is aimed at research covering the derivation and use of human embryonic stem (ES) cell lines. In the first part, the state of the art of stem-cell research is summarised, including basic terminology, history of stem-cell research, properties of human ES cell lines and an overview of countries, in which a successful human ES cell lines derivation was carried out. The second part of the paper is focused on the ethical aspects of this research, particularly on the sources of embryos, on somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and other controversial procedures related to the stem cell research, as well as on the availability of the derived human ES cells lines for other scientists. All these ethical issues are discussed in the context of existing legal framework with special regard to the countries, in which human embryonic stem-cell research is permitted. |
