Recognition of academic degrees

University graduates, who finished their studies before 1 June 1990, and were not awarded any academic title of profissional qualification or title of a university graduate, acquire the academic title „Magistr“ according to section 43 par. 2 Act No.172/1990 Sb. of Higher Education Act.

Confirmation of this title is issued by the university, which submitted the diploma, in case of the university’s extinction; the confirmation is to be issued by its legal successor. Masaryk University issues this confirmation for its own graduates, graduates from the University of Jan Evangelista Purkyně, graduates from the Education College in Brno and the Education institutions in Brno and Jihlava.

Application for issuing the title confirmation, with statutory declaration, that the graduate was not awarded the academic title according to former regulations, is to be completed with a verified copy of the diploma by necessity.

Applications are handled by the Office for Studies at MU Rectorate, Žerotínovo nám. 9, 601 77 Brno.

Graduates of postgradual studies, who were awarded the title Doctor (Dr.) according to Act. No. 172/1990 Sb. of Higher Education Act, can apply for replacing the title Dr. with Ph.D.

Confirmation of the title change for postgradual students who studied at Masaryk University is issued based on a application completed with a verified copy of the diploma.

Graduates of postgradual studies, who were awarded the academic title Magistr and the academic scientific title Doctor according to section 21 par. 2, section 43 par. 2 and section 22 Act No. 172/1990 Sb. of Higher Education Act, are awarded academic titles according to section 46 par. 5 Act No.111/1998 Sb. of Higher Education Act.

Confirmation is given to the applicant graduates, who finished at least a postgradual study programme at Masaryk University.

Confirmation of title recognition is awarded based on a application completed with a verified copy of the documents proving the recognition of the academic title Magistr and the academic scientific title Doctor.

Applications are handled by the Research & Development Office at MU Rectorate, Žerotínovo nám. 9, 601 77 Brno.

Proceedings of awarding the academic title confirmation, follow legal regulations (Act. No. 500/2004 Sb.), and concludes to either title confirmation awarding, or to notifying of not fulfilling the legal terms for awarding this confirmation. In the case, where Masaryk University notifies its applicants of not fulfilling the legal terms for awarding the academic title confirmation, there are no acceptable revisory resources against this notification accroding to the law.
