Verification of the condition for admission to study
of graduates from foreign higher education
Applicants for study in follow-up Master's degree programmes must prove they completed higher education in the Bachelor's, Master's or doctoral degree programme. If you graduated from a higher education institution abroad, the possibilities to prove your education are listed below. Choose the most suitable one and find out detailed information on the website of the faculty where you wish to study.
- I completed higher education in one of the countries with the equivalence agreement
(Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Slovenia) - I completed higher education in another country, and I can submit:
1. I completed higher education in one of the countries with the equivalence agreement (Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Poland, Slovenia)
If you completed higher education in Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Poland, or Slovenia and an equivalence agreement concluded with the Czech Republic applies to your certificate of foreign higher education, you shall directly submit this foreign document.
2a. Submitting a foreign certificate proving the completion of higher education abroad and the list of completed courses
You can prove your higher education completed abroad directly by submitting a foreign certificate of foreign higher education, list of completed courses, as the case may be, supplemented with other documents required by the faculty. The faculty shall verify that you are entitled to follow your higher education with the doctoral studies. Such verification may be subject to a fee.
The verification shall only apply for the purposes of admissions procedure at the faculty that made the verification; this is not a confirmation of equivalence of education. The advantage of the verification over the general recognition of foreign higher education and qualification in the Czech Republic performed by a Czech public higher education institution or by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR, Ministry of Defence of the CR, or Ministry of the Interior of the CR is mainly that the process takes less time and costs less money.
2b. Submitting a certificate of recognition of foreign higher education and qualification in the Czech Republic
You can prove your foreign higher education by a certificate of recognition of foreign higher education and qualification in the Czech Republic, and as the case may be, a decision on recognition of foreign higher education and qualification in the Czech Republic, in case the certificate forms an annex to such decision.
The recognition of foreign higher education is performed by:
- A Czech public higher education institution with a similar degree programme accredited in the Czech Republic. Relevant institutions can be found e.g. in the list of accredited study programmes of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR (Czech only). A list of public higher education institutions in the Czech Republic is also available on the Ministry's website.
- In case of doubts, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the CR appoints the respective higher education institution to assess the qualification, or makes the decision itself. More information and contact details are to be found here.
- The Ministry of Defence and Armed Forces of the CR decides on the recognition of foreign higher education related to military education.
- The Ministry of the Interior of the CR decides on the recognition of foreign higher education related to security service.
The application can be submitted to Masaryk University in cases where the recognition relates to a degree programme that has a similar content as some of the degree programmes accredited at Masaryk University (Programmes Catalogue a Fields of study Catalogue). More information and contact details are to be found here.
The advantage of the recognition of foreign higher education over the verification of education by the faculty is that the document of recognition may be used for various purposes and its validity is permanent. On the other hand, the process to obtain recognition is more complex and expensive.
