MU Microcredentials Stand up to International Competition
The microcredentials issued at Masaryk University (MU) meet all requirements for their recognition abroad. They reach the highest level in the Micro-Evaluator, an online tool for the evaluation of microcredentials developed by the Dutch organisation Nuffic.
Even though microcredentials have been on the learning opportunities market for some time now, holders of this electronic certificate of acquired competences still struggle to get them recognised. This is due to different approaches or conditions for providing lifelong learning around the world. In addition to the Czech Republic, in Europe, common national microcredentials frameworks have been implemented, for example, in the Netherlands and Ireland.
A first step in international recognition of microcredentials may be an open online tool the Micro-Evaluator by Nuffic, the Dutch independent, non-profit organisation for internationalisation in education. The evaluator is being developed with the participation of the European University Association (EUA) within the Erasmus+ funded project Automatic Recognition in the European Education Area 2025 (AR25).
The Micro-Evaluator can be used by admission officers, credential evaluators, or by anyone involved in the recognition of microcredentials. It assesses the quality assurance of the issuing institution, the indication of the national or European Qualifications Framework (EQF), the extent to which learning outcomes are described, the expression of workload in credits (ECTS) and the use of different testing methods in the verification of knowledge and skills achieved.
Thanks to the unified system of lifelong learning records at MU and the integration of lifelong learning into internal quality assurance based on institutional accreditation, all MU microcredentials reach the highest level. Based on the Micor-Evaluator output, the knowledge or skills acquired through lifelong learning at MU and certified by a microcredential can therefore be recognised in accordance with the Lisbon Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications.
