The programme can be studied as a single subject or in combination with another programme.
What will you learn?
The Follow-up Master’s Degree in Chinese Studies assumes a knowledge of Chinese language, history and culture at the level of Bachelor’s Degree in Chinese Studies.
Main study areas:
1) The study of contemporary Chinese society and politics - the transformation of political institutions, political regimes and ideologies and their impact on the life of Chinese society.
2) Studying discourse practices in modern China (political thought, Chinese Marxism, modern Chinese literature, popular culture, religion, Chinese medicine, martial arts, film, etc.) to clarify the origin of these phenomena, their social and cultural context and meaning for modern Chinese identity.
3) The intensive study of Modern Chinese. The basics of the courses are Practical Chinese for Master’s Degree I-IV, complemented by other courses developing specific skills (intensive one-to-one conversation, translation seminars, written Chinese, conference presentation in Chinese).

Career opportunities
Graduates find employment in positions of co-ordinators of Chinese-Czech projects, foreign trade, diplomacy, translation and interpreting and as Chinese language teachers.
Admission requirements

Deadline for submitting applications: January 1 - April 30
Who the programme is intended for: Knowledge of modern Chinese at the level B-1 CEFR is required. A Bachelor’s degree in sinology in Brno, Prague, and Olomouc is considered sufficient proof. Applicants from other fields shall submit a detailed proof of completed studies of Chinese (place, length, intensity).
Subject matter of the entrance examination: Oral examination The committee will decide on the admission of applicants on the basis of the submitted materials. The documents for the admission procedure include:
- 1) statement of study results (grades) in the Bachelor’s programme in pdf form;
- 2) a link to the address from which it is possible to download the Bachelor’s thesis, including the reviews of the supervisor and the reviewer. If it is not possible to download the thesis and reviews, the applicant shall submit them in pdf form;
- 3) brief motivation letter (1 page, max. 2 pages).
Documents for the admission procedure must be uploaded into the e-application (rubric “Documents”) by 1 June. Applicants are required to include their full name and application number on all attached documents.

Criteria for evaluation
Evaluation of the entrance exam: Bachelor’s thesis - max. 40 points, statement of study results (grades) - max. 40 points, motivation letter - max. 20 points. Pass/fail line of the entrance examination: 75 points (out of 100).
