Metal, religion and spirituality
-
12 June 2018
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM - room K31, Faculty of Arts MU, Veveří 28/28, 60200 Brno
The conference will focus on the relationship between religion and spirituality on one hand and metal music and subcultures on the other hand. Its goal is to capture the intersection of both spheres of human activity in its entirety, which means that the conference will perceive the views of religious or spiritually active people and organizations on metal music and the incorporation of elements of music and subcultures into spiritual life, as well as the presence of religious or spiritual themes and the discussion of them in music and subculture itself.
The conference itself is designed to be an interdisciplinary meeting and is open to various contributions from the fields of religion, anthropology, sociology, media studies, political science, musicology, aesthetics and other domains. From the point of view of the audience, it is also open to the participants of the metal subculture and the general public. Our intention is also to create a platform for metal studies on Czech and Slovak academic grounds.
