Mendel Days 2024

This year's Mendel Days follow on from last year's successful event, the main theme of which was water as part of The Four Elements series, and this time will also focus on commemorating Mendel in the full breadth of his interests. The main theme of this year's Mendel Days will be a thematic lecture block entitled The Four Elements: I Praise You, My Earth.

The element 'earth' will be explored in terms of geology, astronomy, physics and chemistry, with lectures also focusing on global issues such as pollution, the environment, climate change and the necessity of a living soil for the future. The programme will also include a presentation of The Mendel Star Telescope and The Mendel Polar Station in Antarctica.

The main guests on the first day of Mendel Days 2024 will be Jiří Dušek, Czech astronomer and astrophysicist, geologist Daniel Nývlt, Austrian guest Prof. Christian Hanus from the University of Krems, and the head of the Institute of Archaeology and Museology Jiří Macháček. The programme of the first day will end with a concert by The Ensemble Serpens cantat

The second day will bring lectures by experts from Masaryk University, namely from the Institute of Chemistry, the Institute of Geological Sciences and the Soil Environmental Chemistry and Toxicology.

The Mendel Days programme is open to students and the general public.

Admission to The Mendel Days programme is free, but due to limited capacity, prior registration is required via the mendelovydny.cz website.
