Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) represent a serious risk for the environment as well as for the human. These compouds are brought to the environment as a consequence of various human activities. Some classes of persistent organic pollutants (e. g. p olychlorinated biphenyls) have been thoroughly studied all over the world and their environmental fate has been described in details, but there is only a small piece of information concerning antother types of POPs (e. g. polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin s and polychlorinated dibenzofurans). New environmental pollutants are being discovered and new transformation reactions of these compounds in the environments have been described leading in many cases to singnificant increase of toxicity. This project i s oriented to the new types of organic pollutants representing potential risk for the environment and for the human.
