The aim of the project is the improvement and widening of the present methods for the sampling, fixation, determination and quantification of the periphytic algae for ecological study to the present level of the evaluating methods for phytoplankton and t est them in different communities and types of river biotop. Methodological changes are essential on the level of sampling (Douglas method is not quantitative and damage big areas of the community.). Other changes have to be done on the level of manipula tion with the alive sample (Complicated structure of community, spectra of shapes, differences in size and epiphytic growth do not provide sufficient homogeneity for quantification of each species.). On the fixation level the methodological changes are n eeded in the preparation and dying of samples (the determination of different algae groups has to be considered and the condition of quantitative estimation of algae must be followed). The determination and quantification of algae will be completed and f
