Men’s fertility levels and their preferences within reproductive behaviour are not a frequently studied issue in demography or sociology. We found only a few studies focusing on this issue in the developed countries, while more enquiries were done in developing countries, especially in Africa. As far as the Czech Republic concerned, there is a lot of demographic and sociological information available on women’s fertility preferences and levels, yet specific studies targeting men’s reproductive behaviour, their strategies and preferences on the number of children are scarce. At first, the project will tackle the availability of data on men’s fertility in the Czech Republic. The core of the project will be specially gathered data from an ad-hoc nationally-representative survey with Czech men (and their female partners), data that will be used to answer to our main research questions. We expect that the research will bring novel knowledge by which can be explained the low levels of fertility the Czech Republic has been facing with since the mid of nineties.
