The aim of the project is a monograph on Hubert Gordon Schauer and his role in Czech literature at the turn of the l9th and 20th centuries. In the first place, it will contain an interpretation of Schauer's concept of realism and its comparison with conc epts adopted by other critics, both Czech and foreign ones. Further it will contain an interpretation of Schauer's critical reflections about Czech literature and other literature, and a comparison of Schauer with other key figures from the turn of the c entury. The monograph will offer a comprehensive account of one of the prominent critics from the turn of the l9th and 20th centuries and it will contribute to the account of other authors and problems of the literature of that period. It will contribute to the interpretation of mutual relations of literary tendencies and groups of the period as well as to the interpretation of specific attributes of Czech literature at the turn of the century.
