The essence of the project is to research the tendencies in approach to concentration (merger and acquisition) processes in the Czech economy which are able to substantially influence the competitive milieu. The so called structural approach to competition policy presumes that principal attention should be paid to maintaining such market structure as will enable functional competition through autoregulation. In spite of accepting this theoretical base, there is lack of feedback in the Czech Republic that would enable confronting the theoretical sources of competition policy with its practical implemetation, not only from the domestic point of view but also as to the tendencies in the EC. The project intends to find an answer to the question whether the strengthening of competitive ability of inland competitors in international markets is not being preferred to the sound competitive structure of the national economy. It also intends to find out whether the concentration and globalization of the economy has not developed to such extent as would require to change the traditional structural approach to mergers and acquisitions and, consenquently, the respective legal regulation as well. The project is based on comparing the Czech legal regulation and the competition policy with those of EC countries.
