THALAMOSS aims to provide comprehensive information on the relationship of genotype and phenotype in β-thalassaemia beyond the effects of primary mutations and major modifiers of basic disease severity. For the first time THALAMOSS will collate and analyse jointly data from four independent international medical centres on patient characteristics and pertaining molecular data, potential therapeutic responses and critical aspects of medical regimens. Correlation of extant medical regimens, including blood transfusion, splenectomy and chelation therapy, with other parameters under study and with medical indicators of the quality of life of patients will guide future patient-specific predictions of favourable treatments and disease progression. Masaryk University participates in two areas of the project: (1) development of data management and processing platform for the data collected in the project and (2) genomic data processing and bioinformatic analysis.
