This project aims to prepare and investigate ordered thin films of molecular nanomagnets (MNMs). MNMs are molecular compounds consisting of one or more paramagnetic ions surrounded by ligands. MNMs have fascinating physical properties including stable magnetization, quantum tunnelling and quantum coherence. As a result they are promising candidates for application in data storage, spintronics or quantum computing. For device application, the organization of the functional units into organized arrays or thin films is essential. Here we will exploit the complementary expertise of the groups involved to achieve our aim. The team from Stuttgart will prepare high-quality molecular quantum bits that will be deposited on surfaces by solution or high-vacuum techniques at CEITEC. In the next step, the quantum coherent properties of the thin films, and their structural and chemical properties will be investigated at the respective institutions. Young researchers will travel to the partners to learn new skills and to experience different research cultures in chemistry, physics and engineering.
