The aim of this project is to deposit stable amine-rich coatings onto a biodegradable nanofibrous material and to prove its increased bioactivity. This proposal coincides with the COST Action MP1206, namely the topic of the working group 3, “Biomedical applications of electrospun nanofibrous materials”. The proposed research will contribute to the promotion of nanofibers for the biomedical use. The particular objectives of the project are:

  • Find electrospinning conditions suitable for the preparation of biodegradable nanofibrous mesh with the fiber thickness ~500-1500 nm and the pore size ~5-15 μm.
  • Find the conditions of low pressure plasma polymerization of cyclopropylamine and plasma pre-treatment conditions suitable for uniform coating of nanofibers with amine-rich layers.
  • Correlate plasma pre-treatment and deposition conditions with the coating chemical structure, adhesion to polymer nanofibers, aging and stability of amine-layers in water.
  • Conclude on an enhancement of cell adhesion and proliferation on the amine-coated nanofibrous material compared to the untreated surfaces.
  • Determine the exent of an antigen or antibody attachment to the nanofibrous mesh and evaluate a prospectiveness of the application for a controlled vaccination or ant-viral/anti-microbe treatment.
