The aim of this project is threefold:
(1) to carry out a corpus-based research and genre analysis of expert and learner’s academic discourse from a cross-cultural perspective in order to identify realizations and examine the linguistic manifestation of cross-cultural variation in English-medium academic discourse by Czech writers,
(2) to carry out a needs analysis aiming at identifying the aspects of academic writing that need to be strengthened in higher education academic writing courses,
(3) to implement the findings of the corpus-based and genre research and the need-analysis in the teaching of academic writing in university academic writing courses under the form of recommendations for academic writing courses design and to evaluate the progress of the students involved in these courses.
