The aim of the project is to analyze how the Vatican Council II was accepted or rejected in the Czech Catholic
Church. The survey will focus on the way the after-council processes were proceeding, and what the
interrelations between continuing secularization of the society and the transformation of the Church were like.
To what extent is the Church influenced by the contemporary national history - the year 1968, normalization
(the des-interpretation of the Council by the organization Pacem in terris) and after the year 1989?
The main instrument will be the publication of the monograph. Except of the above mentioned topics it will
compare the acceptation of the Council in Central Europe. Moreover, there will be mentioned the concrete
problems of the council renewal, the development of the ecumenical movement, Priestly Society of Saint Pius
X, etc.
Another outcome will be a scientific conference speaking on Josef Beran, focusing mainly on his life period
spent in Rome; with the volume from this conference. Three articles will also be published, one of them in the
foreign journal.
